EARN GRADUATE LEVEL CREDIT HeinemannU Online Course and Practicum

Course Description This course offers educators the opportunity to earn university credits by developing practical activities based on a HeinemannU online course.

Credit Information Chapman University will award 2-3 semester hours of graduate level elective credit based upon successful completion of course requirements. These credits are professional development units that are not part of a degree program but instead are primarily used for professional advancement (such as salary increment steps and recertification). Students should seek approval of appropriate district or college officials before enrolling in these courses to satisfy any degree, state credential, or local school district requirements. State licensing departments vary regarding their criteria for credit acceptance, and some states may not accept credit from universities that are located outside the state.

Course Requirements

1. Participate in the online course, and complete all assignments within the course.
2. Complete a typed written report related to the online course topic.
3. The report must include a Title Page with your name, address for sending grades, social security number, title of online course, course start date, and a brief (one paragraph) description of the course. The title page must also include the grade level, number of students, and any special information about the student population (e.g. at-risk, ESL, etc.).
4. The paper must be at least 3 full pages long for 2 credits and a minimum of 5 full pages long for 3 credits (not including title page or documentation), typed and single-spaced. Use a 12 point font and one inch margins. Staple the paper together. Do not send the paper in a report cover. Complete your report individually; no group reports are permitted.
5. You will be graded on the accuracy of the title page, each of the components below as well as the Quality of the Overall Paper, which includes the format, grammar, spelling, punctuation, required length, and other overall qualities.
6. Organize the report as follows, and include the subheadings:
   
   
   FOR TWO CREDITS
   
   1. Submit a total of 3 pages minimum and complete the assignment below, listing each subheading.
   2. Literature Review: Choose and read at least 3 resources that further research the online course topic. Write a mini literature review of your resources (books, periodicals, website articles, etc.).
   3. Reflection: Discuss your opinions and reactions to the course and the literature you reviewed. What additional information did you learn from the literature? How did it enhance the course information?
   4. References: Include a list of reference materials (title, author, publisher, date, etc.).
   
   
   
   FOR THREE CREDITS
   1. Complete all of the requirements for two credits stated above.
   2. Submit a total of 5 pages minimum including the assignment below, with the subheading.
   3. Course Application: Discuss why you took the course and how you plan to apply the knowledge to your work as an educator. For example, specify how you will implement new activities in the classroom and/or adjust your activities in the classroom based on information you learned in the course and/or your course-related research.

Confirmation, Grades and Transcripts Within two weeks of enrollment, you will receive a confirmation letter, with transcript request information and a copy of the rubric that will be used to evaluate your work. Submitting Report The final report is due (postmarked) four months from the date the course ends. Mail all registrations and coursework to: Chapman University, Professional Development, HeinemannU Practicum, One University Drive, Orange, CA 92866.
